The Challenge

The Challenge

CHID is an interdisciplinary humanities degree that allows students to form their major around their own interests and questions.  But the freedom to learn knowledge has brought the issue that the program is lack of structure. This ambiguity leads to the decrease number of students major in CHID.

How might we increase awareness of CHID?
How might we stronger CHID's public image?
How might we build CHID's community?

" As an adviser, I like to approach “Interdisciplinary” thought with a question, “how is that you know what you know?” This takes exploration and commitment to figure out how our families, communities, and our own beliefs shape how we know what we know. "

"We need to get people excited about CHID as a space and project that they want to be a part of and consistently present in! We have lost a bit of the feeling of it really being a collective space...that doesn't seem to emerge until the thesis cohorts are formed in 491. "

" Students need to be at the center. It seems like many departments focus on the great things their faculty are doing; our students do amazing things, and I think we want potential Chiddies to look and say: "Hey, I could do that in CHID," rather than looking at faculty accomplishments."

Lighting decision jam

After reviewing the expert interview reports, everyone in our team sat at a table and spent 7 minutes writing all the challenges, or concerns that we think CHID have faced without discussion. After this section, everyone stood up at the white board to very quickly explain each challenge as they sticked them to the surface. Nobody else in the team is allowed to speak here. And then everyone had 2 voting dots to vote on the challenges we considered to be the most pertinent to solve. Two of our clients also had 2 voting dots in different color to vote on the challenges.
